So, I’ve finally started blogging
There’s already a gazillion blogs out there, and plenty of them are better informed, more articulate and far more widely read than my blog ever will be.
So why am I doing it?
- because it’s probably about time I did – I’ve been wittering on about the value of online engagement and social media and boring everyone around me for a while now
- because I have too many thoughts in my head, which go round and round and round and go nowhere, or I have a flash of inspiration which I then forget, or I…uh, I forget
- because I pledged to do it by the end of this week after Saturday’s LocalGovCamp, so I better had, otherwise I’ll feel like I’ve let down the all the inspiring, committed and downright brilliant people I met there
- and a load of other reasons that were floating around in my head but which I’ve now forgotten (see reason No.2)
So here I am, late to the party as always (in my head I like to think ‘fashionably late’), but I figure why not, no-one’s going to read this thing anyway
Oh, one last thing – I know it looks boring at the moment (again, in my self-delusional head I’m thinking ‘cool and minimal’), but I have plans!

Welcome Russell! It’s a great move to make, and I’m sure you’ll enjoy blogging. It’s highly addictive.
Thanks for my first comment Steph!
I think I’m enjoying it already! Hope it’s not too addictive, I already have a serious Twitter habit!
Nice one Russell! Will make sure I pimp your new blog in all the online spaces I can find…
Cheers Dave
Oh no, more excuses not to get on with my work! Will add a link from my blog – http://www.blog.rhianfrenchcommunications.co.uk. Now I will have to find the time to update it more often.
Thanks Rhian – we can nag each other to update!
Welcome to the weird, wide, and sometimes wonderful world of blogging. The one tip I would give is that if it’s YOUR blog, you get to choose what the content is. Don’t feel it has to be about subject ‘x’.
Oh, and I think ‘cool and minimal’ sounds fine. It’s what you say, and the way you say it, that’s what’s important. Although “a few pretty colours” can be easy on the eye, admittedly…
Thank you – all tips very welcome!
Great blog so far! I wouldn’t worry about the design, it’s the tone that’s important and you’ve already nailed that.
Thanks Philip, really appreciate your comments!
