Running for a good cause: part 5

So, somehow last week I managed to walk into a piece of furniture and stub my toe.

Like most times I’ve stubbed a toe, I guessed that while it was disproportionately painful for a short while, it would cause me more embarrassment at my stupidity than long-term discomfort.

Or so I thought. It turned out the loud crack I’d heard was the sound of a bone breaking. Not really the most welcome news as I prepare to undertake the Great North Run in September!

Luckily, by some fluke, I’ve managed to break a toe which I don’t seem to use an awful lot for walking or running. After the initial swelling and bruising subsided, I’ve been able to strap the toe to it’s neighbour and it doesn’t seem too uncomfortable.

So yesterday morning, after a few days rest, I took an experimental 5k run to see how it coped. And it did admirably – no pain or real discomfort and no extra swelling or bruising today as a result.

So I’m back in the race!

Which is great because I’m running to raise money for a really good cause – to help Maggie’s cancer caring centres continue their good work to support people affected by cancer. If you’d like to help Maggie’s continue their good work then why not run right over to my JustGiving page and sponsor me using the button thing below:

Thank you!

Running for a good cause: part 4

A minor hiccup this week in my training for the Great North Run 2010 on 19 September

An unanticipated increase in speed on the treadmill in the gym resulted in a twisted ankle and a painful left achilles tendon – worrying as I have a history of dodgy achilles tendons, having torn both in the past (resulting in weeks of immobility and then many more of limping)

Luckily a rest from running (though not the gym) over the past few days seems to have been all that was needed to get my tendon back to normal and training is back on track

Which is a good thing, as I’m taking part in the GNR to raise money for a great cause – to help Maggie’s cancer caring centres continue their good work to support people affected by cancer. If you’d like to helpMaggie’s continue their good work then why not run right over to my JustGiving page and sponsor me using the button thing below:

Running for a good cause: part 3

If you’ve caught any of my earlier blogposts about it, you’ll know I’m training for the Great North Run 2010 on 19 September (and if you know me, you’ll probably having yet another laugh at the mere idea)

I had a bit of a breakthrough while running today – I almost enjoyed it. Well, to be honest I more sort of didn’t hate it. But for me that’s a major achievement

I still have a lot of running to do before September, and I’m sure I know I’m going to hate it again in that time, but it’s worth it because I’m raising money for a great cause – to help Maggie’s cancer caring centres continue their good work to support people affected by cancer. If you’d like to help Maggie’s continue their good work then why not run right over to my JustGiving page and sponsor me using the button thing below:

Running for a good cause: part 2

So, I was supposed to be blogging regularly about my progress training for the Great North Run 2010. Except I’ve been pretty shabby about blogging in general, so this is only update number 2!

Anyway, after hurting my back a while ago, which put me back to square 1, I’m now back in training. And (fingers crossed) everything seems to be going well – this week I’ve done my best runs so far and I’m making progress (finally)

There’s still a long way to go, but I’m actually feeling positive(ish) about the big day in September now. However more motivation is always welcome in the form of sponsorship! If you’d like to help motivate me, and raise money for a great cause too, you can do so right now over at my Just Giving page.

The money I’m raising will help Maggie’s cancer caring centres continue their good work to support people affected by cancer

Running for a good cause: part 1

So, I’m now officially entered into the Great North Run 2010

I’ll be running to raise money for Maggie’s cancer caring centres, and the fundraising is off to a brilliant start with a hugely generous 1st donation from the lovely Sarah Baskerville (@Baskers) – if you see this lady, buy her a drink!

I’m not a natural runner (or even a natural exerciser) but under the expert eye of Graham Moxon at the Reset Health & Fitness Centre, I’m now in training & hating loving every minute of it.

I’ll be blogging regularly about my progress (well, maybe not regularly, but every so often. for sure. definitely). And I will also be making regular pleas for your money, for which I apologise in advance.

However, if you’d like to contribute right now, you can nip over to my Just Giving page ;)
